Oklahoma Hosts TCU to Kick Off 2005

NORMAN, Okla. — Oklahoma begins its 111th season of intercollegiate football competition Saturday when it hosts Texas Christian University. The Sooners are opening at home for the third consecutive season and for the sixth time in Bob Stoops’ seven seasons.

The game will be live on ABC at 11 a.m. CT. The game will also be broadcast across the Sooner Sports Radio Network, on Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 123 and around the world via Yahoo! live internet audio at SoonerSports.com.

TCU also was the opening day opponent in 1993 (OU won at Fort Worth, 35-3) and in 1996 (TCU won in Norman, 20-7). The Sooners are ranked No. 5 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and No. 7 in the Associated Press Poll. TCU is unranked. It’s the opener for both squads. OU hosts Tulsa next week, while TCU is at SMU.

The Series
Overall: OU leads 6-3, At Norman: TCU leads, 3-1; At Fort Worth: OU leads 4-0; At Oklahoma City: OU leads 1-0, OU’s Widest Margin of Victory: 35-3, Sept. 4, 1993(at Fort Worth); TCU’s Widest Margin of Victory: 20-7 (on Sept. 7, 1996 in Norman and on Oct. 25, 1947 in Norman).

Series Notes
Oklahoma has won four of the last five meetings, including a 10-9 victory at Fort Worth in 1998 … OU is 3-1 vs. TCU when the Sooners are ranked (lone loss came in 1945 when the unranked Frogs prevailed over No. 14 OU, 13-7) … this series began in 1944 when Oklahoma downed TCU 34-19 in Oklahoma City.

The Coaches
Oklahoma: Bob Stoops (Iowa ‘83), now in his seventh season with the Sooners, is 67-12 overall. He is 3-3 in bowls, 3-2 in January bowls, 2-2 in BCS games, 44-8 vs. the Big 12, 25-5 vs. the Big 12 South, 19-3 vs. the Big 12 North, 3-1 in the Big 12 title game, 24-4 vs. non-conference opponents, 36-1 at home, 20-6 on the road, 11-5 on neutral fields, 21-5 vs. ranked opponents, 1-0 vs. teams currently holding membership in the Mountain West Conference and 0-0 vs. TCU.

TCU: Gary Patterson (Kansas State ‘83) is now in his fifth season with the Horned Frogs. He owns a record of 32-17 and is 0-0 against Oklahoma.
