New OC No Concern for Juco QB

December 20th, 2005

A week ago the Oklahoma Sooners received relief in the form of Joey Halzle, a 6-4, 215 pound Quarterback from Huntington Beach, California. This dual-threat player from Golden West Community College who would give the Sooners the freedom to move Paul Thompson to receiver full-time and provide a quality backup to Rhett Bomar was shocked to find out that Chuck Long was leaving Oklahoma. However, the former Chuck Long recruit, Halzle confirmed his commitment to Bob Stoops on Saturday.

Halzle is an odd player in that he could be the best recruit of the Stoops Era that doesn’t figure to see the field for quite some time. Instead, he gives the Sooners the freedom to turn Paul Thompson loose and create a backup to Rhett Bomar that is in the same mold as Bomar. Halzle is a dual-threat QB who offers you to see everything about him on his own website (JoeyHalzle.com).
